Global Search

Searching for parts of text or a particular phrase can be a long and arduous task. Expert Estimation eases this process by providing you with the ability to search globally throughout a project.

Global Search window

The Global Search is displayed alongside the Project Messages function in the application’s status bar, found at the bottom of the main window. You can access the Global Search by clicking on the Search icon  or by using the shortcut CTRL + F.

Searching with the Global Search window is done by entering keywords to be searched in the Search For field. You may control the areas in which you wish to search in a project by selecting the information types from the Search In drop-down.

Search results are presented in the main table below the search fields. By default, results are grouped per result location (Direct Cost Schedule, Resource Explorer, Direct Cost Schedule – Cost Estimate, etc.) and display the text that was found with the keywords highlighted. You can navigate to the location of the resulting text by double-clicking on the row you wish to view.

Note: The default action for displaying a search result is to open it in a new window.
Within the Options - Workflow window, you are able to override the default action for displaying the search result to select:

  • open the search result in a new window
  • display the search result in a window that is already open
  • open in new window on a case by case basis via the right click context menu

FIND AND REPLACE

With current window results selected, you are able to specify text which can be used to replace any applicable search result. Pressing "Replace" will substitute the search text for the replacement text on the selected search results. This could be across multiple fields for a single element or multiple elements.

Search results that are able to be replaced are indicated by the  icon in the  column of the Search Results.
