Cost Estimate – Grid Columns
Each window within Expert Estimation has its own unique workspace layout. The following is a list of all the columns available within the Cost Estimate window where information can be entered.
NAME |
DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
Line # |
The main identifier for an item. This field is populated automatically to assist in identifying the line for references in formula and general navigation. Note: This field is read-only. |
Description |
A multiline text field allowing you to provide a detailed explanation of what the Cost Estimate Line represents. Note: To create a multi line description use the shortcut Ctrl + Enter when in edit mode. |
Formula |
The formula field represents a property for a Cost Estimate Line which allows you to generate values through mathematical formulas or functions. The results can be used to determine the Quantity for a line or produce a cumulative total of previous line values. A full list of available Cost Estimate formula can be shown by using the shortcut key Ctrl + Space whilst the formula field is in edit mode. |
Resource Name |
Identifier used to represent the name of a resource that has been applied to the estimate line. |
Unit |
Represents the unit of measure of the resource applied to the cost estimate line. This value is defined as part of the Resource details. Note: This field is read-only. |
Matrix Item |
Represents a selected Matrix Item for the Cost Estimate Line. Genesis edition only. |
Quantity |
The amount of a given resource required to perform the task. Depending on the Estimate mode used, this property may be used as the Resource Quantity, or it may act as a factor in the calculation of the Resource Quantity. If the quantity is calculated by a formula, an icon will be displayed and the column will become read-only. |
Resource Rate |
The Resource Rate will represent the Calculated Rate of a Resource applied to a Cost Estimate Line. Note: When using a Matrix Item instead of a Resource on a Cost Estimate line the Resource Rate will also represent the rate of a Matrix Item. This field is read-only. |
Total |
The Cost Estimate Total is determined by multiplying the overall Resource Quantity of a line by the Resource Rate to produce the total cost for the line. Note: The Resource Quantity is calculated differently depending on the Estimate Mode being used. This field is read-only. |
Resource Type |
Represents the type of Resource assigned to a Cost Estimate line. Note: If using Matrix Items instead of Resources on Cost Estimate lines, this field will be blank. This field is read-only. |
Excluded |
This column identifies whether or not a cost estimate line has been excluded from project calculations and ultimately, from the project altogether. |
Tags |
Tags represent a metadata field for Cost Estimate lines. Note: To understand tag functions in more detail please refer to the Cost Estimate Functions article. |
Contribution Rate |
The Contribution Rate column displays the per unit value that each Cost Estimate line contributes to the Estimated Rate of a Cost Schedule item or Calculated Rate of a Group Resource. Using the Represents Total calculation method, the Contribution Rate is calculated by dividing the Cost Estimate Line Total by the Cost Schedule Item Quantity or Group Resource Base Quantity. Using the Represents Rate calculation method, the Contribution Rate equates to the value in the Cost Estimate Line Total. Note: This field is read-only. |
Resource Type Rate |
A series of columns representing each base resource type that display the total resource type cost per single unit used for a given Cost Estimate line. Note: This field is read-only. Genesis and Express editions only. |
Resource Type Total |
A series of columns representing each base resource type that display the total resource type cost for a given Cost Estimate line. Note: This field is read-only. Genesis and Express editions only. |
Resource Description |
The Resource Description column will be prepopulated with the description of the resource applied on the cost estimate line. The column will automatically be updated when the Resource Description for a Resource is changed from either the Resource Explorer or by clicking the Edit Resource Properties button. Note: If the Resource assigned does not have a description this field will be left blank. This field is read-only. |
Production |
A factor in the calculation of the Resource Quantity that is used on a Cost Estimate line. Genesis and Express editions only. |
Number |
The number of resource units required for a Cost Estimate line. Genesis and Express editions only. |
Resource Quantity |
The calculated quantity that is used to calculate the rate and total of the Cost Estimate line. Note: This field is read-only. |
RESOURCE QUANTITY COLUMN
The Resource Quantity column will represent a different value based on the Estimate mode selected.
While in Production mode the Resource Quantity column will be calculated by dividing the Quantity by the Production value and multiplying the result by the Number column. While in Time mode the Resource Quantity column will be calculated by multiplying the Quantity by the Number column.
