Microsoft Project Integration

Expert Estimation is designed to work with Microsoft Project, this allows for a Cash Flow to be programmed outside of the application, then imported. Similarly, the Cash Flow can be altered or created in Expert Estimation and then exported to Microsoft Project.
The modules in this document provide optimised steps for each stage of this process and can be used in the order required.

Exporting from Expert Estimation

  1. From the Cash Flow Scenarios window open the relevant scenario’s Scheduled Activities.
  2. In the ribbon menu, click the Export Activities to Excel button and Save the file to a known location.

Exporting from Microsoft Project

  1. In Microsoft Project, go to File, and click Export.
  2. Select Microsoft Excel Workbook and click the Save As button
  3. Name the file and click Save
  4. In the Export Wizard, click Next.
  5. On the next window, select Project Excel Template and click the Finish button

Importing into Microsoft Project

  1. Open Microsoft Project
  2. Under the File, click New from Excel workbook
  3. Browse to the exported Expert Estimation spreadsheet and click Open, ensuring the file type is set to Excel Workbook
  4. In the Import Wizard, click Next to get started
  5. In Step 2, select New map and click Next
  6. In Step 3, choose the relevant option below, then click Next
    • As a new project – to create a new project
    • Merge the data into the active project – to merge data into an existing Microsoft Project file from Expert Estimation
  7. In Step 4, select Tasks as the data type, and Import includes headers under Excel options, then click next
  8. In the Task Mapping window, map the Excel fields to the Microsoft Project fields, ensuring the following are mapped correctly:
    • ID to Unique ID
    • Start to Start
    • Finish to Finish
    • Duration to Duration (if required)
  9. Click Finish to complete the import
  10. The activities will be imported into a new project, and can be edited

Importing into Expert Estimation

  1. From the Cash Flow Scenarios window open the relevant scenario’s Scheduled Activities
  2. In the ribbon menu, click the Update Activities From Excel button
  3. The Select Spreadsheet prompt will open, click the “…” button and browse to the exported Microsoft Project spreadsheet and Open
  4. In the Worksheet choose the Task_Table worksheet and click OK
  5. The Update window will display, check Data includes column headings
  6. The following must be mapped for the data to import:
    • Unique ID
    • Start Date
    • Finish Date

    Note: The duration column will be automatically mapped, ensure this is set to None.

  7. Click the Update button and the data will be imported
