Resource Explorer – Grid Columns
Each window within Expert Estimation has its own unique workspace layout. The following is a list of all the columns available within the Resource Explorer window where information can be entered.
NAME |
DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
|
Indicates editable status of a resource. If a Lock icon is displayed on a resource, changes are unable to be made as it is either being edited by yourself in another window or by another concurrent user. Hovering the mouse over the Lock icon shows the user that has locked the resource from being edited. This column also displays a warning sign should the resource not adhere to the resource policies set under the Project Properties - Resources window. Note: This field is read-only |
Name |
The unique identifier for a resource. A resource name cannot be more than 255 characters. Each resource can be distinguished by its casing, allowing the same name to be used with alternative letter casing. |
Description |
This column allows you to provide a detailed explanation about a resource. |
Type\Category |
The Type\Category allows you to define the Resource Type and Subcategory that a resource will be assigned to. |
State |
The State column allows you to define a level of confidence in the rate you have specified for each resource. Base Resources can have a state of either Plugged, Unplugged or Confirmed. Group Resources will have a different set of Resource States, being Unfinished, Check or Finished. |
Unit |
The Unit column displays the unit of measure the resource is represented in. |
Automatic Formula |
The Automatic Formula allows you to enter a calculation that will be used whenever the resource is applied to a Cost Estimate line. Note: This will only be applied if the option within the Cost Estimate section of the Options window is ticked. |
Base Rate |
The Base Rate displays the per unit rate for the resource. This is where the cost of a resource is entered before any adjustments are applied. This column is only applicable to Base Resources. |
Currency |
The Currency column allows you to define what currency the base rate for the resource is built up in. If the project base currency is different to the currency of the resource, then this will be considered as part of factoring the value used for the calculated rate. The currencies available within the Resource Explorer are defined within the Project Properties - Currency window. |
Sell Rate |
The Sell Rate represents a value that will be used when calculating the overall Project Total. The difference between a resource's Sell Rate and its Calculated Rate will determine the per unit margin that the resource will contribute to a project. The margin generated will only contribute to the Project Total if the Resource Sell Rate option in the Project Properties - Resources is enabled. Genesis edition only. |
Base Quantity |
The Base Quantity column represents the number of units that the Cost Estimate has been built up against for a single use of the group resource. This column is only applicable to Group Resources. |
Applied Factor |
This factor can be used to represent an extra surcharge or discount to the Base Rate. The factor is used in conjunction with the Base Rate in calculating the overall Calculated Rate of a resource. This column is only applicable to Base Resources. |
Rate Adjustment |
The Rate Adjustment column allows you to further inflate or deflate the value of a resource’s rate. The value here is added in addition to the rate instead of being a factor. This column is only applicable to Base Resources. |
Tax Impost |
The Tax Impost allows for a resource to have any additional tax value to be applied where necessary. This value is considered as a factor when calculating the overall Calculated Rate. This column is only applicable to Base Resources. |
Calculated Rate |
The Calculated Rate column is a read-only column that displays the calculated result of a resource's rate. The result displayed will be generated differently depending on if the resource is a Base or Group Resource. The Calculated Rate for a Base Resource takes into account the values within the Base Rate, Applied Factor, Currency, Tax Impost and Rate Adjustment column. The Calculated Rate for a Group Resource is calculated by dividing the Total of the Group Resource’s Cost Estimate by the value within the Base Quantity field. The final value displayed in the Calculated Rate will always be represented in the Project Base currency. |
Resource Calculation |
This column allows you to define a Resource Calculation Sheet to be used against a Base Resource. These calculation sheets provide you with the ability to adjust a resource rate to include other factors such as penalty rates and the number of work days. Genesis edition only. |
Resource Calculation Result |
This column will display the rate of the resource after the Resource Calculation Template has been applied. The result here will then be used in addition to the Currency, Applied Factor, Tax Impost and Rate Adjustment in order to find the Calculated Rate of a resource. Genesis edition only. |
Use In Project |
The Use in Project column displays the total quantity used of a resource throughout the entire project. Note: This field is read-only. |
Value in Project |
The Value in Project column displays the total value a resource contributes to the project. This is calculated by multiplying the Calculated Rate by the Use In Project. Note: This field is read-only. |
Subcontractor/Supplier |
The Subcontractor/Supplier column allows you to record the name of your Subcontractor or Supplier for a resource. This field can accept up to 255 characters as a Subcontractor/Supplier name. This field will be automatically populated if the resource is used in a Quotation Comparison. |
Units Per Day |
The Units Per Day column enables you to enter a factor to define how many units will be used per day. The value entered will be utilised by the Resource Flow analysis. This column is only applicable to Base Resources. Genesis edition only. |
Rate Last Changed |
This column indicates the time that the Calculated Rate for a resource was last changed. This data is kept when exporting projects, ensuring that the Rate Last changed is maintained across servers. Note: This field is read-only. |
Comparison Name |
The Comparison Name identifies the Quotation Comparison the resource is currently used in. Note: This field is read-only. |
Base Rate Spreadsheet Named Reference |
Instead of manually entering a Resource’s Base Rate, the value can be linked to an attached spreadsheet. The Resource is linked to a named cell within the Spreadsheet. The Name of the Spreadsheet and the named cell linked are displayed in this column. This column is only applicable to Base Resources. Note: This field is read-only. Genesis edition only. |
Base Rate Spreadsheet Value |
When a Base Resource is linked to a spreadsheet’s named cell, this column displays the spreadsheet value of the named cell that is linked to the Resource’s Base Rate. Note: This field is read-only. Genesis edition only. |
Sell Rate Spreadsheet Named Reference |
Instead of manually entering a Resource’s Sell Rate, the value can be linked to an attached spreadsheet. The resource is linked to a named cell within the spreadsheet. The name of the spreadsheet and the named cell linked are displayed in this column. This column is only applicable to Base Resources. Note: This field is read-only. Genesis edition only. |
Sell Rate Spreadsheet Value |
When a Base Resource is linked to a spreadsheet’s named cell, this column displays the spreadsheet value of the named cell that is linked to the Resource’s Sell Rate. Note: This field is read-only. Genesis edition only. |
Duration |
The Duration column allows you to define a length of time that represents how long the work defined within the Group Resource will take to complete. The value entered within the Duration column will become the value of the Automatic define #DUR within the Group Resource Cost Estimate. Genesis edition only. |
Duration Type |
The Duration Type column allows you to define the period length that the Duration represents. This can be Hour, Day, Week, Fortnight, Month, Quarter, Half Years or Years. Genesis edition only. |
Resource Type Rate |
These are a series of columns, one for each resource type (Labour, Material, Plant, Subcontractor and Other) that display the cost per unit for their respective resource type. These columns are most suited for reviewing the rate of resource types contained within each Group Resource, allowing you to quickly identify the per unit amount for each resource type. Note: This field is read-only. |
Resource Type Total |
These are a series of columns, one for each resource type (Labour, Material, Plant, Subcontractor and Other) that display the total cost for their respective resource type. These columns are most suited for reviewing the total of resource types contained within each Group Resource. Note: This field is read-only. |
Source |
The Source column identifies the name of the project where the resource was originally created. This is useful when using projects that have been imported from another server or when resources have been used from a Linked Project. Note: This field is read-only. |
Code |
A unique code identifier that allows for reference codes such as supplier or inventory code IDs. This field is purely informative and is only referenced in the Resource Explorer. |
