Direct Cost Schedule – Ribbon Menu

The contextual ribbon menu for the Direct Cost Schedule gives you access to all of the functions that allow you to add, remove, and modify Direct Cost items.

GENERAL GROUP

NAME

DESCRIPTION

Paste
Ctrl + V

Clicking the Paste button will insert the information from the clipboard into a new item, above the selected item.

When data is copied from an external application, the Paste Special window will be displayed allowing you to map into which columns the copied information is to be pasted.

Paste Cell
Ctrl + Shift + V

Pastes information from the clipboard into the specified cells.

The Paste Cell button is available from the sub-menu underneath the Paste button.

Paste Cost Estimate
Ctrl + Alt + V

Appends the Cost Estimate information in the clipboard to the end of the specified item’s cost estimate.

This function is available when the clipboard contains cost estimate information and the selected cost schedule item(s) are unfinished.

Copy
Ctrl + C

Clicking the Copy button will copy the selected items to the clipboard.

This allows the data to be pasted within Expert Estimation or into an external application.

Undo
Ctrl + Z

Clicking the Undo button reverses the last change made to the data.

Redo
Ctrl + Y

The Redo button becomes available when an undo action is performed and is used to reverse the undo action.

Properties
Alt + Enter

The Properties button will open the Properties pane on the right-hand side of the window.

This will display the details of the selected item(s) and give you the ability to edit multiple items at once.

Notes
Ctrl + N

Any items that require an extra reference or notation can have these details entered by clicking the Notes button.

This will open a panel in the bottom half of the window, which provides you with the ability to record multiple notes or references against an item.

ITEM FORMATTING GROUP

NAME

DESCRIPTION

Bold
Ctrl + B

Will toggle the bolding property for the currently selected lines.

Italicize
Ctrl + I

Will toggle the Italicize property for the currently selected lines.

Underline
Ctrl + U

Will toggle the Underline property for the currently selected lines.

Highlight
Ctrl + H

Clicking the Highlight button will apply a highlight to better distinguish Cost Schedule items.

To choose a background highlight colour, click the Highlight drop-down. To remove formatting, click Highlight again.

EDITING GROUP

NAME

DESCRIPTION

Insert Schedule Item
Ctrl + Insert

Inserts a new item above the specified item in the Direct Cost Schedule window.

Insert Multiple Schedule Items
Ctrl + Shift + Insert

Opens a dialogue window that allows you to choose the number of items to insert above the current position in the Direct Cost Schedule.

The Insert Multiple Schedule Items button can be accessed by clicking the arrow underneath the Insert Schedule Item button.

Add Schedule Item
Ctrl + Shift + =

Clicking the Add Schedule Item button will append a new item at the end of the Direct Cost Schedule window.

The Add Schedule Item button can be accessed by clicking the arrow underneath the Insert Schedule Item button.

Remove Schedule Item
Ctrl + Del

Deletes the selected item(s) from the Direct Cost Schedule.

Items that have been removed cannot be restored after the window is closed.

View Cost Estimate
Ctrl + E

Clicking the View Cost Estimate button opens the Cost Estimate window for the item that is currently selected.

This button will only be available if the item has a quantity.

View Resource Cost Estimate
Ctrl + Shift + E

Accessed by clicking the arrow underneath the View Cost Estimate button, this button opens the Cost Estimate window for the group resource used on an item.

This button will only be available if the item has a group resource applied on the Cost Schedule level.

Item Resource Properties
Ctrl + R

Opens the Edit Resource window to change the details of a Cost Schedule item’s Resource Properties.

This allows for modifications to the details of a resource without accessing the Resource Explorer window.

Clone Item's Resource
Ctrl + Alt + R

Initiates the Clone Resource dialogue, that allows you to quickly copy the resource on the selected item with a different name.

Data Relay
Alt + R

Initiates the Data Relay processing for project Cost Schedule Items, allowing you to populate your project data from another known project detail.

Go To Line
Ctrl + G

The Go To Line button opens a dialogue that allows you to enter a line number to navigate straight to without the need to manually find it.

SUBITEM GROUP

NAME

DESCRIPTION

Indent Item
Ctrl + Right arrow

Indents the selected items under the item directly above turning them into sub-items.

Outdent Item
Ctrl + Left arrow

Outdents the specified items if they are indented.

PROPERTIES GROUP

NAME

DESCRIPTION

Unfinish
Ctrl + 1

Changes the item state of the selected Line Item to Unfinished.

Unfinished items have not been completely estimated, and cannot be calculated. The item’s cost estimate can be modified. For more information see Item States.

By default, Estimated Rates and Totals cannot be viewed for unfinished items, but may be enabled in the Project Properties – Calculations window.

Check
Ctrl + 2

The state of the selected Line Item is changed to Checked.

Checked item is used when an estimate has been completed for an item, but needs to be highlighted for later review. Calculations will be performed on items with a state of Check. For more information see Item States.

When the item state is set to Checked, you cannot change the cost estimate without first changing the status of the item to Unfinished.

Finish
Ctrl + 3

Changes the specified Line Item state to Finished.

Finished items have been completely estimated and can be included in all calculations. For more information see Item States.

When the item state is set to Finished, you cannot change the cost estimate without first changing the status of the item to Unfinished.

Excluded
Ctrl + 4

Toggles the selected item’s excluded property on or off.

If an item is excluded it will not contribute to the project total and will not be removed from the Direct Cost Schedule.

Hidden
Ctrl + 5

Toggles the chosen item’s hidden property on or off.

If an item is hidden, it will contribute to the project total and will not be displayed on any submission reports.

DISPLAY GROUP

NAME

DESCRIPTION

Add Unit Total Column

Opens a sub-menu that allows you to add summary columns for specific units to the Direct Cost Schedule window.

The total quantity of resources contained in the items with the unit specified will be totalled in the associated column.

Genesis and Express editions only.

Add Unit Rate Column

Displays a sub-menu that allows you to add summary columns for specific units to the Direct Cost Schedule window.

The total quantity of resources contained in the items with the unit specified is divided by the schedule quantity to provide a rate.

Genesis and Express editions only.

Restore Layout

If columns have been removed, adjusted or relocated, clicking the Restore Layout button will restore columns to their default layout.

NAVIGATION GROUP

NAME

DESCRIPTION

Create

Pressing the Create button opens a sub-menu that allows you to create other project elements that relate to the selected Direct Cost Schedule items.

Subcontractor Comparison
Ctrl + Alt + U

Pressing the Subcontractor Comparison button under the Create sub-menu allows you to create a Subcontractor Comparison for the selected Direct Cost Schedule items.

Genesis edition only.

Take Off Set
Ctrl + Alt + T

Within the Create sub-menu, there is an option to create a new Take Off Set quickly. The creation process is the same as if you were within the Take Off Sets window. However, upon creation, the new Take Off Set Calculation Sheet is opened to allow quick editing.

Genesis edition only.

Go to Definition
Ctrl + Shift + G

Pressing the Go to Definition button will navigate you to the define referenced on an item.

If more than one define is used, the Go to Definition button will open the Navigate to Define Source dialogue.

From this window, you can choose the define you wish to navigate to.

Go to Resource
Ctrl + Shift + R

Opens the Resource Explorer and filters the grid to display the resource used in the chosen item.

Go to Subcontractor Comparison

Opens the Subcontractor Comparisons - Details linked to the selected Direct Cost Schedule item(s).

If more than one Direct Cost Schedule item is selected, the Navigate to Subcontractor Comparison dialogue will open.

From this window, you can choose the Subcontractor Comparison you wish to navigate to.

HELP GROUP

SavvyHelp
F1

Clicking the SavvyHelp button will open the SavvyHelp pane on the right of the window.

This will display useful information about the window as well as details for the columns available.
